There are still many bugs that are lurking. We’re asking for more technical users that don’t mind a few issues to work through. The dedication to fix is there, but we just need more feedback. photoding was pitched to attendees of the Innovation Expo put on by the Enterprise Institute today in Sioux Falls, SD.
Yes, it has been a very quiet last couple months. There were a few bumps in the road over the summer that derailed efforts. After today, there is new resolve to get photoding released as soon as possible. Even though there are a few bugs still outstanding, the goal is to release before the end of October (at the latest).
If you stopped by the photoding booth today, thank you! We sincerely appreciate your interest and enthusiasm.

photoding is now up to RC8. The program is getting to be much more polished in terms of functionality. There’s always visual stuff to do. Right now, we just want to focus on making it work well rather than look pretty. Everyone on the beta team is pretty busy with life – so an open beta will start soon. When is soon? – About a month or so from now. If ever you’re interested in becoming part of the dedicated beta team, just get signed up on the forums – we would love to have you!

All the major features and functionality have been retested and quite a few bugs have been fixed. There’s still a few on the list that need to be resolved. With the first pass complete, we’ve also opened up the main website to let Google and some other search engines start grabbing the latest stuff so that keywords can be indexed. A couple of the tabs will be rather bare as they aren’t being utilized at the moment because photoding is not released. An hour total has been running since the work on 3.0 started – we are now up to 441 hours.

Since the last update, a lot of bugs have been fixed. The program is much more reliable now. Release candidate 6 is about to be send to the beta testers.
One of photoding’s new features is to upload to some different photo sharing places online. These were written into photoding about a year ago. In that time, the photo sharing places updated the methods in which they talk back and forth. This meant that what was developed a year ago won’t work anymore. Even worse, one service has totally changed their methods. This new method would require all photoding users to download the .NET 3.0 framework. Because many computers cannot handle this, photoding will release without Facebook. The others are being reworked and should be able to release.
As far as status on release, I am considering going to an open beta soon. This will give us the 30 day trial period to let all users get some feedback in. After that, I would think we could do a full release.

photoding is currently on release candidate three. That is technically speak that basically means I’ve released three versions to the beta testers. Unfortunately, I have four more things to finish up before I can release. Only one of them I expect to be a little difficult. It is my hope that I can wrap up development by this weekend and then have a week or two of testing. Then finally, I think we can release.
Also, I mentioned in the last post that photoding started out as a freeware program called Photo Ops and blossomed from there. When version 2.0 was introduced, there were about 3000 hits to its hosting site in the first month and eventually over a thousand downloads. Can it still be downloaded? – Nope. This was done for good reasons, of which I will no go into. Will you ever see a freeware version of photoding? Possibly, but not for a while.

photoding was revealed to attendees of the Marketplace for Entrepreneurs in Bismarck, ND earlier this week. Those that stopped by were told (and shown) some of the functionalities of photoding – software that simplifies and automates digital photo organization.
There was much excitement and even some offers to buy the software, however it’s not ready for release just yet. There are a few more bugs we’d like to eliminate, and some licensing things to think through. Software development is very complex and definitely something that cannot be rushed. Plus, photoding is currently developed outside normal work hours.
